An allergist is a physician specially trained to diagnose and treat allergies, asthma, and diseases of the immune system in both children and adults. Becoming an allergist requires completion of at least nine years of training. As a result of this extensive study, an allergist is the best qualified medical professional to effectively manage the comprehensive needs of patients with allergies, asthma, and diseases of the immune system.

Allergists are trained in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of immunological problems such as allergic rhinitis (hay fever), sinusitis, hives,  food allergies and asthma. Unlike a cold, allergic disease is not likely to quickly resolve on it's own. Working with a trained allergist can reduce the frequency of sick days from work or school, and more importantly make you feel better! Studies have shown that those under the care of an allergist make fewer visits to emergency rooms, have fewer hospitalizations for asthma, and are better able to manage their allergic symptoms.

During your visit our providers will work to accurately diagnose your condition by taking a thorough history and ordering appropriate testing, which may include skin prick testing, patch testing, lung function testing or other tests as indicated. Combining this information will helps us come to an accurate diagnosis, and will guide us in working together to develop a management plan to relieve your symptoms. Some patients will require "allergy shots or allergy drops" to desensitize them, thereby reducing their symptoms permanently. After your visit your primary care doctor will receive a letter detailing the results of your testing and recommendations for your treatment.
